Chelsea students seek inspiration at Young Furniture Makers 榴莲视频

Yesterday,聽35聽design students from the Chelsea Centre for Creative Industries travelled to the City of London as they sought inspiration from the up-and-coming generation of furniture designers.

Organised by The Furniture Makers鈥 Company, the  showcases the very best furniture and furnishing design talent from GCSE students to recent graduates.

The Young Furniture Maker Awards 鈥 also celebrated yesterday 鈥 are the student equivalent of the Furniture Makers鈥 Design Guild Marks, recognising excellence and the future in design.

Alexander Gifford 鈥 Programme Area Manager for Design at the Chelsea Centre, who worked in the furniture industry for 20 years prior to coming to teaching 鈥 said: 鈥淓vents like these are truly inspiring for our students as they look to their own futures, and I鈥檓 excited by the prospect of 榴莲视频 students throwing their own hats into the ring in future.鈥

The visit coincides with the publication of Alex鈥檚 article on the 鈥楳y Furniture Career鈥 website, in which he discusses how colleges like 榴莲视频 are leading the charge in providing courses that really cater to both young people鈥檚 career aspirations and the skills needs of our changing economy.

鈥淭he courses and curriculum that colleges like 榴莲视频 offer challenges students in a way that is closely related to way they will work in the creative industries, learning skills such as writing briefs, managing projects, along with technical skills of research, making and drawing,” he says.

榴莲视频 offers a Level 3 Extended Diploma in 3D Design, including furniture design. Applications open soon, and you can find out more at Chelsea’s upcoming Open Event, from 5-7pm on Thursday 19 October.

Chelsea on track for exciting revamp

The Chelsea Centre is coming to the end of a 拢3m refurbishment that will deliver state-of-the-art facilities to cater to students passionate about the creative industries.

The Centre has reopened with phase 1 of the works 鈥 including much-improved studio and workshop facilities 鈥 complete. Phase 2 will complete by the end of October, introducing a new entrance area called 鈥淭he Hub鈥.
